about
This is a folk-style tune I came up with during an attempt to write a traditional bluegrass song. This song was recorded very simply with an acoustic guitar and a harmonica, along with a bit of bluegrass-tinged flatpicking.
A bit about the meaning:
In relation to this song, I tend to think about the common quote by Ian MacLaren: "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."
I also think about a specific line in the song, "Back to the Wild" by Langhorne Slim. In the song, Langhorne Slim sings "My grandfather told me once that all pain hurts the same."
To me, this song is about life and suffering. While it may seem like someone else has it better in life, it's not always as simple as it appears. After all, times are hard all over sometimes.
lyrics
Oh, don't look at me like that
You don't know where I've been at
We've all been to hell in our own minds
And though I seem to have a plan
We all start with different hands
And the demons come in every shape and size
Cause times are hard on your side of the street
Times are hard on mine
And though the grass seems greener on the other side of life
Times are hard all over sometimes
So if you find a way to laugh
Just try your best to make it last
We all have tricks of our own
And though pain expands and shrinks
It will never deplete
So it's better to just welcome it home
Cause times are hard on your side of the street
Times are hard on mine
And when the grass seems greener on the other side of life
Times are hard all over sometimes
Cause times are hard on your side of the street
Times are hard on mine
And when the grass seems greener on the other side of life
Times are hard all over sometimes
Times are hard all over sometimes
